Marcon 55 Science Guest of Honor:

Wolfgang is a first-generation American, born of Austrian immigrants. Even as a small child, he was fascinated with science (and science fiction), so nobody was surprised when he ended up with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from The Ohio State University. After completing a postdoc Fellowship, Wolfgang worked for a scientific software company for 14 years, then in 2013 he returned to academic research. He is currently a bioinformatics analyst at the The Institute for Genomic Medicine, part of the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where he does microbiomic profiling of patients, and assists with customizing treatments for cancer patients based on their genome. Wolfgang lives in Columbus OH with his twin sons Beowulf and Hiro and his wife Christine. In his free time he is a casual “Maker”, and he and his cosplay Guild spend far too much time and money creating group costumes.

These magical masters of musical hi-jinx and mayhem will wizard rock the tea towel right off your house elf! Their unique blend of 80s new wave, 50s do-wop, straight up pop rock and old-timey sing-songy comedy will leave you laughing and crying for more. They draw inspiration from the Harry Potter series, Dr Who, the SCA, medieval fantasy, science fiction and all kinds of delightfully, geeky fandomness.

Scott & Kirsten Vaughan began performing together in 1992 in the SCA, where they are known as Master Efenwealt Wystle and Maîtresse Aénor d’Anjou. With the release of ‘Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows’ in 2007, and upon encountering bands like Draco & the Malfoys, The Mudbloods, and The Moaning Myrtles they decided to form their own wizard rock act. They live in Cary, NC (under the name Sanderz) with two kids and a cat named Rosemerta. (That’s the cat’s name. It would just be silly to give both our kids the same name as the cat!)

They mostly perform at at Harry Potter, Filk and SciFi/Fantasy conventions along the east coast but also do libraries, bars and private parties. Some of the bigger shows they’ve played include Portus, ConCarolinas, LeakyCon, Infinitus, MarsConOhio Valley Filk FestivalGA-FilkDragon*Con the Quidditch World Cup, the NYC Wizard Rock Festival, Wrockstock and LeakyCon London in 2013 (what a thrill!). Anybody want to bring them to Seattle? San Diego? LA? Germany perhaps?

When not out conquering the galaxy with her army of robotic wallabies, Kirsten creates steampunk/medieval/fantasy accessories for her online store, And in order to protect his secret past as a renegade architect, Scott pretends to manage communications campaigns for clinical research studies at a small advertising/creative services agency (Merge, LLC). Their pal Chuck who often plays bass with them claims to be a mild-mannered government IT contracts coordinator, but we suspect he’s really a super spy.

Marcon 55 Special Musical Guest(s):

Wreck The System is a hip-hop music group made up of musicians Cam3, LadyJ, Twill Distilled, and Osiris Green. It all started with Cam3 and LadyJ opening a recording studio and running it out of their apartment in Maryland. They had an idea to do a new Nerdcore specific project called “Tokens” and joined forces with some of the major nerdcore musicians to make it happen — Mega Ran, Sammus, Sky Blue and more. Twill Distilled and Osiris Green joined the project and quickly became friends, inspiring each other to go push themselves and make the best music possible. The four performed some of the songs from “Tokens” at Magfest in 2016. They had such great chemistry on stage that the audience believed the four were a group rather than four solo artists, so the four decided to give the group life a shot. They formed Wreck the System soon after under the motto “Be who you are without fear!” They hope to inspire their fans to always pursue their dreams just like they inspired one another during “Tokens.” The group released their first EP “Rage Quit” on August 2016 and their first album “WreckFest” on January 4, 2017. “Tokens,”Rage Quit,” and “WreckFest” are available for purchase on Bandcamp ( and their website (
